A Magical Owl-Themed Winter Wedding

A wedding invitation is more than just a piece of paper—it’s guests’ first glimpse into a couple’s love story and the celebration ahead. For Katherine and Michael’s owl-themed winter wedding, every detail, from the custom letterpress invitations to the carefully curated reception elements, was designed to create an unforgettable experience.

Setting the Tone: A Luxurious Boxed Invitation

Katherine and Michael’s love story unfolded beautifully, and their wedding reflected their deep appreciation for elegance, warmth, and personal touches. From the first moment guests received their wedding invitations, they entered an experience that set the tone for the entire celebration.

Guests were introduced to the magic that awaited them with a beautifully designed boxed invitation—a stunning combination of letterpress printing, custom illustrations, and a dusting of faux snow. This meticulously crafted piece wasn’t just an invitation; it set the stage for the celebration. The navy blue, metallic silver, and snow white color palette created an air of wintery sophistication. At the same time, the intricate design details hinted at the couple’s love for owls, storytelling, and intentionality. When guests opened the box, they knew they were invited to witness something extraordinary.

Custom Illustration: A Personal Touch in Every Detail

Personalization was at the heart of Katherine and Michael’s wedding, and nowhere was this more evident than in the custom illustrations woven throughout their stationery suite. Thoughtfully designed to reflect their love for owls, the illustrations appeared on the invitation folio, enclosure cards, reply envelope, and the ceremony program.

The accommodation card featured two owls donning whimsical nightcaps—a charming nod to the couple’s playful spirit. Inspired by 19th-century Currier and Ives’ winter scenes, the transportation card features a horse-drawn sled. A majestic yet graceful owl carried in his beak “RSVP” on the reply envelope. On the back of the ceremony program, an illustration of two owls snuggled together, this time with a top hat and veil, beneath the words “Just Married” provided an endearing touch. Every piece was crafted with care, ensuring a cohesive and meaningful aesthetic that seamlessly wove together their theme and vision.

An Enchanting Ceremony Program

Katherine and Michael’s wedding ceremony was deeply personal, rich with sentiment, and beautifully designed. The program guided guests through the ceremony and honored their loved ones. One of the most touching moments came when Michael shared a heartfelt poem he had written titled “My Forever. This profoundly personal reading resonated with guests and underscored the day’s significance.

The program also paid tribute to the couple’s families by recognizing their parents and grandparents’ wedding anniversaries. A poignant message read: May our love be as beautiful as those who have proven love everlasting. Celebrating sixty-six years of love… and many more. This meaningful detail tied together the past, present, and future, celebrating love in all its forms.

A Reception Steeped in Thoughtful Details

From the moment guests arrived at the reception, carefully curated elements welcomed them and enhanced their experience.

One of the standout features was the escort card display. Each guest received an envelope nestled in faux snow, revealing their table assignment inside. Instead of traditional table numbers, Katherine and Michael named each table after a different owl species, further reinforcing their theme in a sophisticated and unexpected way.

Another charming touch was the guestbook—a coffee table photo book featuring stunning owl imagery. Guests filled its pages with heartfelt messages and wedding salutations, creating a keepsake that Katherine and Michael would cherish for years.

A Cocktail Hour Like No Other

The cocktail hour was an unforgettable blend of elegance and creativity, with every element designed to surprise and delight.

Signature cocktails, including “The Snowy Owl”, a winter-inspired libation, added a playful, thematic twist to the evening.

Sushi and sashimi were presented atop stunning ice displays, enhancing the winter ambiance. One of the most breathtaking details was the custom ice sculpture—two majestic owls carved in exquisite detail, serving as both an artistic centerpiece and a conversation starter.

Guests also indulged in a lavish sweet table featuring blue, white, and silver confections wrapped in custom monogrammed treat bags. For tea lovers, custom-blended teas awaited, each adorned with personalized tea tags reading “Katherine and Michael” or “The Perfect Blend”.

Adding another layer of personalization, navy blue cocktail napkins were elegantly printed with custom snowflakes, the couple’s names, and the wedding date. Every element of the cocktail hour contributed to a beautifully immersive experience.

A Dining Experience to Remember

The wedding dinner was an event in itself, featuring a carefully curated menu crafted by James Beard award-winning executive chef Tory Miller. Each guest pre-selected their entrée, and when they arrived at their place setting, they found a personalized menu detailing their courses. This attention to detail elevated the dining experience, ensuring each guest felt considered and cared for.

As a final sweet gesture, each guest received a beautifully packaged box of chocolates. The silver packaging complemented the wedding’s color palette, while the message inside—“Owlways & Forever”—was a charming reminder of the couple’s thoughtful design approach. These favors weren’t just delicious but meaningful keepsakes of the day’s joy.
