HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRAYDEN | JUNE 2016

4 May 2017

When your son is into LEGOs®, I mean REALLY into LEGOs, it is kind of a must to have a LEGO themed birthday party. And, when your son is really into Star Wars, it is also a must to have a Star Wars themed party.

But when your son is into both LEGOs and Star Wars, it is definitely a must to combine the two.

Each boy was given a LEGO Star Wars figurine along with the invitation. Naturally the party was held at the local Bricks & Minifigs and was filled with fun building activities and eating. The boys left the party with their own lightsaber and a smile on their face, especially the birthday boy!

Today was only fitting that I put this post up – May the Forth be with you! (ha ha – get it? Today is May 4th. Forth be with you – Force be with you).

Venue: Bricks & Minifigs

JANELLE & RYAN | 07 JANUARY 2017

26 April 2017

In my last post (yes, it seems like eons to me too!), I showcased the first of 3 ADDYs that I received at the 2017 American Advertising Federation show. This post will showcase a second winner.

Janelle & Ryan met on eHarmony, an online dating community. They had dated for 5 years, some of the time not even living in the same city. The long distance didn’t put a damper on their relationship, and in fact, made it stronger.

It was on a trip to Savannah, Georgia that Ryan proposed to Janelle in front of the Forsyth Park Fountain in the historic district. It was a total surprise to Janelle! Luckily, Ryan was sly enough to ask a complete stranger to take a few pictures to capture the moment.

The fountain became our inspiration for the save-the-dates and the rest of their wedding stationery suite. Since family is a big focal point in their relationship, they naturally wished they could share the engagement proposal with them. Queue in the save-the-dates!

Instead of just incorporating the photos in a collage orientation on the save-the-dates, we wanted to heighten the suspense for their guests when opening the save-the-dates. A small 2.75×2.75 inch envelope that held the photos was adhered to the save-the-date. The “Actual Moment” unfolds in a picture-book fashion.

The fountain imagery along with the navy, steel blue, cranberry and rose-gold color palette continued onto their wedding invitations and their day-of elements.

CHANEL & MITCHELL | 19 MARCH 2016

22 March 2017

Happy 1-year anniversary going out to Chanel & Mitchell!

I had met Chanel & Mitchell at a wedding expo. While chatting with them, they mentioned that they had already gone through a traditional Hmong wedding. They were at the wedding expo for the planning process of a more modern westernized celebration. While the Hmong ceremony was meaningful and heartwarming, they wanted to take a step away from this tradition and incorporate their own character into the upcoming celebration.

I’ll never forget the voice message I received from Mitchell the morning that we had our initial consultation scheduled. It went something along the line of “Kathy? Umm, hi, this is Mitchell. Chanel & I have an appointment with you this morning. Unfortunately, we’re not able to make our appointment. Chanel’s water broke and we’re at the hospital. I’m so sorry that we need to reschedule.” It was touching that Mitchell was so apologetic. Seriously! You’re about to have a baby! No need to apologize! They were graced with a beautiful baby boy, Oliver.

The love that they have for each other and for baby O, helped during those first few sleepless weeks and adjustments. This was very apparent when we did finally meet about a month later to discuss their thoughts and desires for their Americanized wedding.

This super fun and whimsical stationery suite fit the bill! The invitation, a 5-panel accordion fold, told their story in an entertaining way, with fun illustrations showing their love for each other. The illustrations, captions, and typography all portrayed their own sense of humor. This design was carried onto their ceremony program – I love that Mitchell was a good sport by letting Chanel tell their guests that she typically takes the upper hand with games they play.

It was an honor that the judges of the 2017 American Advertising Federation show awarded this stationery suite a Silver ADDY award.

STYLIZED WEDDING SHOOT | WEDDING PLANNER & GUIDE 2017

8 March 2017

You know, Madison has some really, really great wedding professionals. I was fortunate enough to collaborate in this Chic Amour Wedding Scape for the 2017 Wedding Planner and Guide. So fun to mix marble with metallic! When pairing gold, copper, and marble with shades of blush pink, peach, and grey, you get a pretty awesome looking décor and design.

Keeping it a subtle accent in the paper goods and cake, marble takes on a contemporary design element. The shades of blush pink, peach, and grey maintain that soft, yet romantic feel. Charlie’s on Main was the perfect backdrop, with their light and airy atmosphere.

So fun that BRIDES Magazine, a leading national wedding source, picked up elements of this wedding scapes for support elements to their online article highlighting marble as a wedding detail! Check out the write-up for yourself here on BRIDES.

AMANDA & CORY | 05 MARCH 2016

5 March 2017

Happy 1 year anniversary to Amanda & Cory! So, after a year of marriage, can you still call yourself newly weds? I think so!

Amanda & Cory wanted to highlight their wedding colors (which coincidentally are University of Wisconsin – Madison’s badger red!). They also wanted to give their guests a peak at their planned décor – the bare branches.

Their invitation suite incorporated both the color red and the branches via lasercut. Love how this turned out. The simple cover of the invitation invited their guests to take a peak inside.

Hope you are celebrating in style this weekend!

JENNIFER & JAMES | 31 OCTOBER 2015 || Custom Wedding Invitations; Madison, Wisconsin

14 April 2016

You know you’re invited to a super fun wedding, when the wedding itself is on Halloween. AND, this wedding is taking place at Electronic Theatre Controls, a company that manufactures and services lighting systems and accessories for theatre, film and television studios, and architectural spaces. I don’t think you can get a better location for a Halloween wedding!

Jennifer and James wanted their invitations to have that gothic and somewhat spooky feel to them, without the expected Halloween imagery. Printing metallic silver and copper on a charcoal grey definitely gave it that feel, yet formal enough for a wedding invitation. I carried out this design on their escort cards as well as signage for their large-scale beverage sign.

Super proud that this invitation suite won a ADDY® award at the American Advertising Awards at the end of February. It won gold in the local level and earned it’s way to the district level.

George Street Photo & Video captured some great photos of how the space was transformed for Jennifer and James. Now, how cool this that!
