STEFANIE & MICHAEL | 28 MARCH 2015 || Custom Wedding Invitations; silk box invitations, Madison, Wisconsin

15 May 2015

Eleven weeks. Yes, from start to finish, we were able to pull off this unbelievable wedding stationery suite in eleven short (and very quick) weeks—AND we were on vacation for two of those!!

ShoesStefanie & Michael frequent Paris often and wanted that to be a source of inspiration for their wedding. Romantic, elegant, old-world, golds, detailed. Stefanie’s fantastic shoes were also a great source of inspiration. We couldn’t pass up on the incredible detailing on her shoes.

Each of their invitations were sent out in a box. Upon opening the shipping box, invited guests were presented with a Thai silk invitation box wrapped beautifully with a thick ivory satin ribbon. Inside housed the main invitation printed on metallic paper stock in golds and dark grey along with the necessary enclosures.

Personalized menus greeted their guests at dinner by starting the meal off with Veuve Clicquot Rose Champagne. Stefanie and Michael each had their own signature drink: Lemon Drop Martini for Stefanie and Brandy Old Fashion Sour for Michael. (Which to choose?!)

And the desserts! Oh my! Wedding cake (2 flavors), Eiffel Tower sugar cookies (of course!), cupcakes (4 yummy flavors), and chocolate covered strawberries. Even Stefanie admits that they might have gone overboard with the desserts. But I think not! You can never have enough dessert!

Lastly, to bring the design elements full circle, thank you notecards. Which I’m sure were written after their honeymoon in St. Thomas!

JESSICA & ROBERT | 21 JUNE 2014 || custom wedding invitations; madison, wisconsin; letterpress

27 March 2015

Here is another one of my favorites from 2014. Jessica & Robert had such a quaint, intimate wedding this past summer.  They wanted a formal, “updated” traditional, and elegant wedding and celebration. The Gates of Heaven was the perfect location for their ceremony, followed by a brunch reception at The University Club on the university campus.  The University Club provided a yummy spread for brunch, which included Jessica’s favorite: Eggs Benedict and Robert’s favorite: Classic French Toast; as well as made-to-order omelettes, beef tenderloin, fire seared ham, and caprese salad not to mention two wedding cake options!

Jessica & Robert’s invitations also had a mix of formal, “updated” traditional, and elegant characterists. The formal and elegance was achieved from letterpress printing and clean design. The square shape, pebble-embossed pewter belly band and typography arrangement lend itself well to the “updated” attribute. This typography treatment, as well as a simple, elegant scroll was carried throughout the rest of their day-of stationery pieces to complete one cohesive look for their stationery suite.

Day-of pieces included maple syrup favors that doubled as escort cards to indicate which table each guest was assigned to, table numbers and menus. We worked with A la Crate Vintage Rentals to put together a number of reception signage that continued to follow this same design on the rentable chalkboards. The afternoon was filled with family and fun, with entertainment provided by Antics Flipbooks, which book cover also carried on the elegant and “updated” traditional look.

Thank you Jessica & Robert for letting us be apart of your special day!

SUGAR PEAR DESIGN WINS SILVER! 2015 AMERICAN ADVERTISING AWARDS || CUSTOM WEDDING INVITATIONS; MADISON, WISCONSIN

2 March 2015

Sugar Pear Design won silver at this year’s American Advertising Awards that took place on February 20. We have been on vacation, and couldn’t wait to come back to share this news!

Many of the choices that Erin and Bryce made for their June 2014 wedding were very personal. For example, Erin’s dress was actually her mothers! For their wedding venue, they choose the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art to remember their first date, in the heart of downtown Madison.

Erin and Bryce wanted a very sleek, streamlined invitation. No fuss, please! Here’s the laser-cut invitation design that we came up with — which one the silver ADDY award!

Below you’ll find an image of the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art as viewed from State Street, looking up toward the Capitol; the invitation suite that won the silver ADDY and candle wraps that mirror the look of the suite to be used throughout their dinner reception.

Congrats again Erin and Bryce!

QUYNH & CIAN | 17 MAY 2014 || custom wedding invitations; madison, wisconsin; letterpress

9 December 2014

Can I tell you that I just LOVE this wedding stationery suite?!

Although Quynh & Cian’s wedding was to take place in the rustic yet charming barn at Over the Vines Vineyard & Wine Barn in rural southern Wisconsin, Quynh & Cian’s event was anything but casual. Fine foods and beverages were only natural for this epicure couple, who have traveled the world in search of great cuisine. Their wedding stationery needed to fit this image. A very sleek modern wedding suite was the optimum solution! It was the perfect mix of old and new, of rustic and modern, of vintage and contemporary when paired with the backdrop of Over the Vines and A La Crate Vintage Rentals.

Do you agree with me? From save-the-dates to the invitation suite to day-of pieces (welcome packet pamphlet, ceremony program, place cards, favor tags) to wedding announcement, this is a favorite for sure!!

29 September 2014

Welcome! Welcome! Welcome to my shinny new blog!

I have so much to show you from this past year, that I though a blog would be the best avenue. But, what do I post as my very first blog post? What should I say? I have a lot of fun projects from this past spring and summer that I can’t wait to show you, but which one should go first? Uhm…

In a recent client consultation, I was asked “How did you come up with ‘Sugar Pear Design’? That’s it! That would be the topic of my very first blog post! So here it is…

How did ‘Sugar Pear Design’ come to being? The reason is quite simple: my very own wedding. We had a fall wedding and decided to do a harvest theme. Pears are in peak season in the fall. I came across these super cute (I don’t use that word that often, but they were!) miniature pears at a local food co-op. I thought to myself, “Now, how can we use these?” I played around with displaying them in different baskets and groupings. But in the end, I actually sugared these miniature Seckel pears to be used for our wedding cake topper.

Those that know me well, know that I am constantly thinking and analyzing. Actions that I take have justification. Everything to me has a meaning. I really do believe that everything happens for a reason. (Sometimes that reason doesn’t surface right away!)

When in the infancy stages my business, I wanted the name of my business to have a personal meaning. I had pages and pages (and pages) of name ideas. Yet, nothing was clicking. None of them stood out as “the one”. While doing some brainstorming, I was going through my wedding photos and it dawned on me. One of these photos is a detail shot of our wedding cake; the pears that I had sugared. It was an “Aha!” moment. Sugared Pears. Sugar Pear Design. That was it! That would be the name!!

SPDCake_2

As I mentioned, I usually have a reason behind the ‘why’. During my client consultations, I ask a lot of questions. I want to get to know them and to understand their wishes, vision, what is important to them—their ‘why’. My job is to translate that personal meaning and verbal vision into something that is physical and tangible. My task is to incorporate their ideas (that oftentimes they don’t know how to fully articulate) into printed pieces that truly are an expression of who they are. My assignment is to show their ‘why’.

Significant events have such a personal meaning. And in today’s world, people don’t want the wedding, the birthday party, the baby announcement, the whatever, that their best friend just had. Similar to coming up with my business name, I can help bring that distinction forward via invitations and other day-of stationery pieces. Stationery reflecting your unique personality and style. Stationery that delivers a true reflection of you. Specializing in the design of bespoke invitations, announcements and social stationery, Sugar Pear Design offers the perfect complement to your event. BEAUTIFUL. ELEGANT. UNDERSTATED.
